充電器やバッテリーなどのEV用大型部品の製造・サプライヤーであるProterra Inc.は、サプライチェーンの制約、需要の鈍化、容赦ない資金調達環境に対応するため、正式に連邦破産法第11条の適用を申請した。

この申請により、プロテラは債権者から保護され、返済の解決策を見出すことになる。

同社の資産と負債を合計すると、5億ドルから10億ドルの範囲となり、最終決算時点でのプロテラの市場シェアは3億6,200万ドルと評価された。

しかし、倒産発表を受けて、プロテラ社の株価は市場前取引で65％近く急落した。

プロテラ社のCEOであるガレス・ジョイス氏は、「われわれはさまざまな市場やマクロ経済の逆風に直面し、すべての事業機会を同時に効率的に拡大する能力に影響を及ぼしている」と述べた。

破産発表にもかかわらず、プロテラは通常通り事業を運営し、既存の資本を事業の資金に充てるため、破産裁判所に通常の申し立てを行う予定である。

このニュースは、同社がコスト削減のため、人員削減とサウスカロライナでの電気バスとバッテリーの生産を統合する計画を発表した直後に発表された。

In response to the announcement, Proterra’s shares plummeted nearly 65% in premarket trading

Proterra Inc., a manufacturer and supplier of heavy-duty EV components like chargers and batteries, has officially filed for Chapter 11 in response to supply chain constraints, slowing demand, and an unforgiving funding climate.

The filing will provide Proterra protection from creditors as it tries to find repayment solutions.

In total, the company listed its assets and liabilities in the range of $500 million to $1 billion, and as of the last close, Proterra’s market share was valued at $362 million.

However, in response to the bankruptcy announcement, Proterra’s shares plummeted nearly 65% in premarket trading.

“We have faced various market and macroeconomic headwinds that have impacted our ability to efficiently scale all of our opportunities simultaneously,” said Gareth Joyce, Proterra CEO.

Despite its bankruptcy announcement, Proterra plans to operate the business as usual and file customary motions with the bankruptcy court to use existing capital to fund its operations. The news comes shortly after the company announced plans to cut jobs and combine electric bus and battery productions in South Carolina to trim costs.
