Duke Energyという電力会社が、テキサス州で開発中の風力発電施設への蓄電池の導入でDOEから＄２２MのGrantを受けとる事になったそうです。
テキサス州のNotreesという所に建設中の１５１メガワットの風力発電所で、２０メガワットの蓄電が可能との事。発電量の１３％ですね。これはなかなかすごいが、蓄電装置のコストだけで＄４３.６Mとのこと。そのうち、＄２２MをDOE(Department Of Energy)のGrant(補助金)でまかなう。
"Energy storage truly has the potential to serve as a 'game-changer' when it comes to renewable power," said Wouter van Kempen, president of Duke Energy Generation Services, a Duke Energy unit that owns and develops renewable energy assets. "Through this project, Duke Energy intends to show that renewables can play an even bigger role in our country's energy future."
The DOE grant was made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, known informally as the federal stimulus program. Duke Energy and DOE must negotiate the terms and conditions of the grant before any funds are released.
因に、アメリカの小売り最大手のWalmartは、そのテキサス州の３６０店舗で必要な電力の１５％をこのNotrees発電所から直接買うそうです。値段とかは未公表。
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has agreed to buy wind-generated electricity from Duke Energy Corp. to power up to 15 percent of its 360 stores and facilities in Texas – a first for the retailing giant.
Under the four-year agreement, Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) will buy power directly from Duke's Notrees Windpower Project in Ector and Winkler counties in Texas starting in April 2009, the companies reported Thursday.
It will be Wal-Mart's first direct purchase of wind-generated electricity and make up about 226 million kilowatt-hours per year, the company said.
この風力発電所には、全部で９５のタービンが設置されるそうですが、タービンを供給するのはデンマークのVestas社、インドのSuzlon社、アメリカのGeneral Electric社だそうです。
なお、Duke Energy社は、North Carolina州の電力会社で、３６ギガワットのベースロードを有するそうで、４００万の顧客をもち、120,000 km2のカバリングエリアに171,000 kmの送電線を所有しているようです。その子会社のDuke Energy Generation Services (DEGS)が、全米の色々な所に発電所を開発しているようです（この辺りが日本と違い分かりづらい）。風力発電に力を入れており、５ギガワットの風力発電所を全米で建設中か計画中との事。
